A STAFF OFFICER'S UNIFORM CAP NAMED TO WINTERTON FOR MAJOR-GENERAL SIR JOHN WINTERTON. A uniform cap in black with gilt braid oak leaves to the brim, red band and General's cap badge. Marked to the inside of the cap band 'Winterton' believed to be Major-General Sir John Winterton had a distinguished career in the Army serving as a Deputy Adjutant and Quartermaster General for I Corps participating in the 1940 withdrawal from Dunkirk. Following the War he held prominent roles including that of High Commissioner in Austria and Military Governor of Trieste.
