porcelain, the well and rim painted in polychrome with ‘Kauffahrtei’ scenes within cartouches framed by gilt latticework and scrollwork, purple and iron-red foliage and strapwork, the four reserves on the rim separated by polychrome ‘indianische Blumen’ extending over the rim and cavetto, gilt rim, diameter 23.2 cm, the reverse with four groups of three flowers, underglaze-blue crossed-swords mark, gilding partially rubbed, (Hr) On the occasion of Frederik V’s accession to the throne, Augustus III of Saxony and Poland promised the Danish king a service of Meissen porcelain, which, after some delay, did not arrive in Copenhagen until 1751. Some 159 pieces are said to have been destroyed in the fire at Christiansborg Palace in 1794. A large proportion of the surviving pieces from the service are now in the Danish Royal Collections at Rosenborg Castle.
