A memory in the evening light - Gary Westall

A memory in the evening light by Gary Westall Painting 14.0 x 11.2 :: Many years ago I saw a painting in a museum – perhaps in London or in Germany – that made a deep impression on me. I believe it was by a Russian Impressionist but unfortunately I can’t remember either the artist or the title. Many years later this painting suddenly resurfaced in my mind. The memory of the still water the water lilies the dark trees and the golden evening light inspired me to create my own painting. Through my use of colour and brushstrokes I tried to capture that special atmosphere. For me this painting is not just a landscape but also a memory that has come back to life after many years.
