Verney, Devonshire Regiment, a soldier, author, playwright and journalist, who wrote a series of well-received short stories based on army life in India, and later garnered considerable praise for ‘H.R.H.’, a character study of the then Prince of Wales, borne of their time together during the Prince’s tour of South Africa from April to July 1925 Military Cross, G.V.R., unnamed; British War and Victory Medals, with M.I.D. oak leaves (Capt. F. E. Verney.); Territorial Force War Medal 1914-19 (Lieut. F. E. Verney. Devon R.); Coronation 1911, unnamed as issued; Serbia, Kingdom, Order of the White Eagle, 5th Class breast badge with swords, silver, silver-gilt and enamel; Russia, Empire, Order of St. Stanislas, Military Division, Third Class with swords, silver-gilt and enamel, this last of Continental manufacture, mounted as worn, minor enamel loss to foreign awards, very fine (7) £1,000-£1,400.
