William Morris (Walthamstow, March 24, 1834 – London, October 3, 1896) was a British artist and writer. Strawberry Thief reproduces one of William Morris’s most recognizable designs and, in our view, it is the most iconic Arts and Crafts-style artwork. He originally created the tapestry after watching birds stealing strawberries from the garden of his home in Gloucestershire, Kelmscott Manor. Morris was among the principal founders of the Arts and Crafts movement; he is considered a pioneer of modern designers and had a notable influence on architecture and architects of his time. Many consider him the father of the Modern Movement, although he was not an architect himself.
