Viacroce 2022 represents one of the most prestigious expressions of Tenuta Calimaia, the Frescobaldi family estate in Montepulciano. It is produced exclusively from hand-picked Sangiovese from a single vineyard located in Pieve Cervognano, one of the historically renowned areas for the production of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. The vineyard, planted in 2003, lies at about 300 meters above sea level, with a southeast-southeast exposure. The clay-llimed soil (franco-argilloso) formed by marine clays of Pliocene origin and characterized by a significant presence of fossils contributes to the wine’s structure and personality. The grapes are hand-picked and vinified in stainless steel at controlled temperature, with a 25-day maceration. The wine then ages for 24 months in French oak: 12 months in barrique and 12 months in large 50 hl casks, followed by a further year of bottle aging. In appearance it presents an intense ruby red. The bouquet is complex and elegant, initially dominated by blackberry and blueberry, followed by floral notes, delicate spicy nuances, and well-integrated tertiary aromas. On the palate it is full, round and voluminous, with a dense, silky tannic texture, an excellent balance between freshness and alcohol content, and a particularly long finish.
