2021 Christophe Pichon, Opale - Hermitage - 2 Bottles (0.75L)

Discover Hermitage Opale 2021, an exceptional white cuvée signed by Christophe Pichon, a family estate based in Chavanay, in the heart of the Northern Rhône Valley. This 75 cl bottle elegantly illustrates the nobility of the Hermitage appellation, renowned for its granite slopes, complex soils, and wines of great depth. Opale is produced from a blend of 95% Marsanne and 5% Roussanne, two emblematic grape varieties of the great white Rhônes. The vines, about 50 years old, are planted on a 0.25-hectare plot on a hillside, on brown calcareous clay-limestone soils. The harvests are carried out manually, with respect for the fruit and precise parcellaire selection. After vinification, the wine undergoes 18 months of aging in oak barrels, of which 30% are new. This work adds texture, roundness and notable complexity, while preserving the freshness and mineralité characteristic of the 2021 vintage. In the glass, Hermitage Opale 2021 shows a golden-yellow robe. The nose unfolds with aromas of white flowers, peach and apricot, yellow-fleshed fruits and soft spices. The palate is rich, ample and silky, supported by a fine mineral tension and remarkable length. With time, the cuvée can evolve toward honeyed notes, hazelnut and dried apricot, revealing its full potential as a long‑keeping wine. This Hermitage white Christophe Pichon is a gastronomy wine, perfect to accompany roasted poultry or creamy sauces, turbot or lobster, a sauce-covered fish, veal blanquette, or a characterful cheese. To be served between 12 and 14 °C, ideally decanted or opened in advance to release all its aromatic complexity. With its limited production, careful aging and exceptional terroir, Hermitage Opale 2021 is aimed at lovers of great white wines for keeping and Rhône Valley enthusiasts.
