Situated in Serralunga d’Alba, Tenuta Cucco is renowned for expressing the essence of the terroir with its Barolos. The Bricco Voghera parcel and the Cerrati cru are onomastic sites recognized for their structure and depth, producing wines with a classic Nebbiolo profile. The year 2021 was marked by balanced ripeness and careful management of summer temperatures, yielding precise Barolos, endowed with elegance and a beautiful tannic texture. The house style aims for finesse while respecting the grape and soil typicity, with barrel aging that highlights the fruit’s purity and aging potential. The Cerrati cuvées, including the 2019 Riserva versions, perfectly illustrate the estate’s ability to produce long, deep Barolos conducive to harmonious evolution over several decades. Tenuta Cucco (located in Serralunga d'Alba, in the Langhe) produces several Barolos recognized from its organic crus and its historic parcel. 1. Tenuta Cucco — Barolo DOCG Bricco Voghera 2021 • Grape: 100% Nebbiolo (primarily from the Bricco Voghera cru). • Nose: Aromas of cherries macerated in exotic spices and liqueur, mandarin zest, dried roses and incense scents; notes of soft tobacco, violets, dried plums, eucalyptus, vanilla and licorice. • Palate: Medium-bodied, remarkable finesse, subtle yet persistent tannins, core of raspberries and red plum, with a distinct chalky mineral finish. • Potential: Ready to drink or capable of aging (up to 2045 according to Wine Enthusiast). 2. Tenuta Cucco — Barolo DOCG Cerrati 2021 • Grape: 100% Nebbiolo (from the Cerrati cru). • Nose: Intense and complex, floral notes of wild rose and wisteria, touch of mint and thyme, red fruits (cherry, fresh black currant) and undergrowth/mushroom. Also hints of leather, balsamic herbs and spices. • Palate: Structured, firm tannins, fleshy black fruit, chocolate and mint, with a long and elegant finish. • Cellaring: A terroir-driven wine with power that benefits from a few years of evolution. 3. Tenuta Cucco — Barolo DOCG Cerrati “Vigna Cucco” Riserva • Grape: 100% Nebbiolo (from the estate’s 1.5 ha historic plot on the highest and brightest part of the Cerrati cru, at 380–420 m altitude). • Nose: Bright ruby robe with orange reflections; enveloping bouquet blending wild rose, cocoa, tobacco, spices, and candied black fruits (blackberries and sour cherries). • Palate: Full, warm, harmonious and powerful, with great complexity, dense tannins and a long savory persistence. • Profile: The deepest and most structured expression of the estate, crafted for a very long cellar life. 1. Barolo Bricco Voghera 2021 This cru (a recent estate plot cuvée) benefits from excellent overall critical recognition with an average critic score of 91/100. • Wine Enthusiast: 94-97/100 (Rated Superb / A great achievement by Jeff Porter). The critic notes its great finesse, subtle tannins and a chalky mineral note. • James Suckling: 90/100 (tasted June 2026). Described as perfumed and elegant, with notes of dried rose petals, raspberry and crushed stones. 2. Barolo Cerrati 2021 This classic wine from the heart of Serralunga d'Alba also shows an overall average score of 91/100 among critics. • James Suckling: 91/100. Described as a tasty and expressive wine with a lively finish and a chalky texture, with notes of dried orange peel, cherry and cedar. • Wine Enthusiast: The vintage has been evaluated and rated in the Excellent / Highly recommended category (between 90 and 93/100). 3. Barolo Riserva Cerrati Vigna Cucco (Vintage 2021) • Production status: The Riserva designation requires longer aging compared with classic Barolos (generally 5 years in total, of which at least 3 years in wood). The Riserva Vigna Cucco 2019 cuvée. The estate produces it only in very great years from the plot at the summit of the Cerrati hill. By comparison, earlier vintages of the same reserve (such as 2015 or 2016) regularly rank between 93 and 95+/100 at Wine Spectator and Robert Parker.
