1994 MERCEDES-BENZ E320 CABRIOLET No reserve - 84,400 km from new - Sold new by Mercedes in Normandy - Almost two-owner car, same ownership for 27 years - Full service recently completed - No reserve Elegant and beautifully built, the Mercedes-Benz E 320 Cabriolet belongs to the W124 generation – more specifically the A124 for the cabriolet – and is one of the most exclusive variants in this model range. Unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1991 as the 300 CE-24 Cabriolet, this model marked Mercedes-Benz’s return to producing four-seater convertibles following two decades of absence. In 1993, following the redesign of the range and the adoption of the brand’s new nomenclature, it was renamed the E 320 Cabriolet. Under the bonnet, you'll find the 3.2-litre M104 inline six-cylinder engine with 24 valves and twin overhead camshafts. Developing 220 hp at 5,500 rpm and 310 Nm of torque, this engine is an evolution of the 3-litre power unit from the previous 300 CE-24. Offering more power at low and medium revs, this engine provides greater responsiveness and is perfectly suited to the model’s grand touring credentials. With a top speed of 234 km/h, the E 320 offers first-class performance for a four-seater convertible from the early 1990s. Significant work went into the development of the bodywork. With the roof removed, the structure was substantially reinforced to maintain a level of rigidity on par with other W124 models. Mercedes-Benz also put particular emphasis on the multi-layered soft top and its soundproofing: once closed, the E 320 retains the comfort and quietness expected of a grand tourer. Its spaciousness is indeed one of its main assets. Unlike many convertibles which only offer two cramped rear seats, the E 320 is a genuine four-seater that can comfortably accommodate several passengers on long journeys, with the soft top either open or closed. Safety was not compromised by the pursuit of elegance: the absence of a fixed roll bar preserves the purity of the design, whilst retractable rear roll bars deploy automatically in case of a rollover. Designed under the leadership of Bruno Sacco, its styling is characterised by elegant simplicity. With its balanced dimensions, clean lines and absence of clutter, it perfectly exemplifies the Mercedes-Benz design of the 1990s and has stood the test of time particularly well. This particular car was sold new in October 1994 by the Mercedes dealership in Rouen. It is therefore a 1995 model. It was then purchased four years later by its second owner (a lawyer from Calvados) on the 3rd September 1999 with a mileage of 60,057 km as a recent second-hand car from the Mercedes dealership in Caen. It was also supplied with a 12-month warranty by this garage (a copy of the purchase order is included in the file). The car is regularly serviced by the Mercedes garage in Lisieux. Today, it has 84,400 km on the odometer since leaving the factory and has just undergone a full service at Mercedes since its purchase by the company from an Artcurial associate. It comes with a file of invoices (copies), the owner’s manuals and the latest invoice from Mercedes Versailles. The car is ready to hit the road with four people comfortably seated, ready to enjoy the sunshine of this mild winter. The car belongs to an associate of the auction house. Photos © Nino Hamet
