1993 Jaguar XJ220

The Jaguar XJ220 emerged from a small, volunteer-led “Saturday Club” project, conceived under Jaguar chief engineer Jim Randle to create a road car capable of eclipsing the era’s leading supercars. Developed by JaguarSport with TWR, the production XJ220 employed a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V-6 producing 542 hp and 475 lbs./ft. of torque, driving the rear wheels through a five-speed manual gearbox. The XJ220 was extraordinarily quick, thanks to its aerodynamic shape and lightweight bodywork. In 1992, a test example with its catalytic converters removed reached 217 mph at Italy’s Nardo test track. With fewer than 300 produced, the XJ220 remains an exceptionally rare member of the early-1990s supercar era. This gorgeous example was delivered to its first owner in the Netherlands on January 14, 1993, finished in Spa Silver paint and complemented by a Smoke Grey leather interior, a well-suited combination for its elegant lines. The Jaguar remained with its original owner for eight years and was only driven sparingly. In June 2001, it was imported to the US by Vik Keuylian, former owner of Lamborghini of Orange County, after which G&K Automotive Conversions undertook its federalization. In 2009, the car was acquired by noted privateer racer and collector William M. Wonder. A passionate enthusiast, Wonder was a racer at heart, and dedicated over 50 years to his craft, partaking in some of the most legendary American races, including Sebring, Daytona, and Bridgehampton, racing in FIA, SCCA, Trans Am, and Can-Am events. Throughout his career, Mr. Wonder participated in over 75 races, working and acquainting himself with some of motorsport’s greatest names, including A.J. Foyt, Juan Manuel Fangio, Carroll Shelby, and Ken Miles. His competition highlights included driving Ford GT40 chassis GT/103 at the 1966 24 Hours of Daytona and 12 Hours of Sebring. His initials, “W.M.W.,” are painted in small red lettering on the driver’s and passenger’s doors, and he retained the Jaguar through 2017. Produced in smaller numbers than either the Porsche 959 or Ferrari F40, the XJ220 occupies a distinctive place among the landmark supercars of its era. Few automobiles capture the ambition and drama of their era quite like the XJ220. Its sweeping profile, intimate cockpit, and imposing presence lend it an unmistakable sense of occasion, while its place in Jaguar’s history gives it enduring appeal for collectors drawn to the marque’s celebrated creations. Today, the Jaguar is accompanied by a first-aid kit, fuse and bulb kit, center-lock wheel accessory, and reproduction manual. This is an outstanding opportunity to acquire a landmark supercar that still makes as striking an impression today as when it was new. car
