Speaking of a wine gem The Château Mouton Rothschild 1985 is a Pauillac Premier Grand Cru Classé (Bordeaux's first Grand Cru), one of the most prestigious wineries in the world. Here's a detailed summary of the wine and its context. In 1922, Philippe de Rothschild took the reins and began a modernization process: bottling at the château instead of selling the wine in bulk, improvements to the vineyard and cellar, and so on. In 1985, barrel aging was between 19 and 22 months. Soils, vineyards, and vine ages contribute significantly to quality: gravelly Médoc soils, good exposure, mature vines, and so on. The harvest was late, between September 26 and October 11. The varietal composition for that vintage was approximately: Cabernet Sauvignon 75%, Merlot 12%, Cabernet Franc 10%, Petit Verdot 3% 1985 in Bordeaux.An excellent and very balanced year. After a cold winter, the harvest benefited from a warm, dry autumn, producing silky, aromatic, and approachable wines with good aging potential.
