1981 Bentley Corniche Convertible No reserve

1981 Bentley Corniche Convertible No reserve - One of 11 LHD cars built from 1979–1981 - Remarkably preserved, only three owners - Formerly owned by the shipping magnate Bob Lalemant - Especially rare model - No reserve This Bentley Corniche was ordered new on 24 April 1980 by Bob Lalemant, a Belgian shipping tycoon, from the Royal Motor Company at Diegem, in Belgium. It left the factory in Crewe on 26 June 1981 and was invoiced on 30 June to Lalemant P.V.B.A. for the sum of 4,697,000 Belgian francs (before tax), making it one of the most expensive cars on the market. Finished in ‘Dark Olive’ with gold coachlines and beige leather upholstery, piped in brown, it was fitted with an adjustable passenger door mirror, fog lamps and whitewall tyres. Like all Lalemant’s cars, a silver and enamel figurine was fitted to the dashboard: produced by Asprey in London, this represented a jockey on his mount, wearing the green and white colours of Lalemant’s racing stable. A further distinctive detail of each of the cars he owned is that it had its own gold key, and this is the case for this magnificent Corniche. Naturally, this will be supplied to its new owner. A colourful character and a distinguished musician, whose trio recorded several CDs, Bob Lalemant passed away on 10 August 2006 aged 79, and the collection of 34 cars he had built up was sold soon afterwards. This Bentley Corniche was bought by Wilfried Reynaert, the director of the Lalemant group, who had it sent to his holiday home in Spain, where it was used by his wife. When she died, the car was brought back to Belgium, where it was bought in 2012 by Thierry Dehaeck, its third owner. The Corniche is in impressive condition. Its interior has its original upholstery throughout: natural in colour with beige piping, it is in exceptional condition and extremely elegant. Remarkably maintained and preserved, this Bentley Corniche will be sold with numerous service bills, its factory build sheet, original sales invoice, a FIVA ID card and numerous photographs. Exceptionally rare and exclusive, this convertible offers a comfortable, open-air ride with genuine space for four, as well as the exclusivity of a model built by a maker of sports cars which won the 24 Hours of Le Mans several times.
