48 years old Vintage ! Almost 50 ! Exceptional Pair of Rivesaltes 1978 (50 cl) – Rare Vintage Collection in Original collector Cases From the Alavail vineyard in Banyuls-dels-Aspres An enchanting terroir, oxidative maturation, and aging in oak tuns. An extraordinary and highly collectible lot, this offering presents two 50 cl bottles of Rivesaltes 1978, perfectly preserved and accompanied by their elegant original presentation cases, making it a distinguished piece for connoisseurs and collectors alike. Originating from the historic Rivesaltais vineyards in the Roussillon region of southern France, this fine vintage is the expression of a singular terroir shaped by Mediterranean sunshine, dry winds, and the mineral-rich soils of the Agly Valley foothills. These harsh yet conditions naturally concentrate the grapes, yielding wines of remarkable intensity and longevity. Crafted according to traditional methods, this Rivesaltes is produced from a noble blend of Grenache Blanc, Grenache Gris, Macabeu, and Malvoisie—emblematic varieties of the appellation. The wine underwent extended maceration followed by long oxidative aging in oak barrels (demi-muids and large casks), allowing it to develop its profound aromatic complexity over decades. In the glass, the wine displays a deep mahogany hue with radiant copper highlights, a visual signature of its extended aging. The nose is rich and captivating, unveiling layers of candied fruits, dried figs, prunes, cocoa, roasted nuts, warm spices, and subtle rancio notes, characteristic of great mature Rivesaltes. The palate is full-bodied, velvety, and beautifully textured, delivering a harmonious balance between sweetness, freshness, and oxidative elegance, culminating in a remarkably long and refined finish. Each bottle is housed in its original, finely designed case, adorned with a heraldic emblem, enhancing both its aesthetic appeal and its investment value. The dual presentation makes this lot particularly desirable for luxury gifting, cellaring, or prestigious auction acquisition. Rarely encountered in such condition and original packaging, this pair of 1982 Rivesaltes is a timeless testament to the enduring excellence of fortified wines from Roussillon. A truly exceptional collector’s lot — where heritage, craftsmanship, and rarity converge.
