1967 Porsche 911

Introduced at Frankfurt in 1963, the Porsche 911 combined Ferdinand “Butzi” Porsche’s styling with an air-cooled, 130 hp flat-six engine, establishing an enduring sports car lineage. Completed on September 27, 1966, this 1967 example was finished in Polo Red (6602) over black leather with pepita inserts. Documentation records its September 1967 sale through a New York City dealer to Barry Weller, a Penn State graduate and future economics professor at its Behrend campus. Mr. Weller competed in local autocrosses and road rallies with the SCCA’s Misery Bay Region, as an accompanying 1970 photograph illustrates. During his ownership, he accumulated approximately 63,000 miles before carefully storing the Porsche with limited use. In 2011, he sold it to its current owner, an East Coast dealer principal, who thoroughly recommissioned it with marque specialist Rennsport Tuning in Erie, Pennsylvania. Well preserved, this early 911 pairs a reported 1970s repaint in its original hue with a largely original interior featuring seldom-seen period accessory headrests. Adding to its appeal is the desirable Type 901/5 engine, with sportier camshafts than the later 901/6, and matching-numbers engine confirmed by its certificate of authenticity. Accompanied by books, tools, and a spare tire, this inviting short-wheelbase 911 benefits from sympathetic care and just two long-term owners. car
