1939 Walking Liberty Half Dollar. Proof-68 (PCGS).

1939 Walking Liberty Half Dollar. Proof-68 (PCGS). Few survivors of this 8,808-piece Proof half dollar issue are as expertly preserved as this lovely Ultra Gem. Lightly toned with gently mottling to sandy-gold iridescence, both sides exhibit crisp strike detail from the rims to the centers. A bit more obtainable than the Proof 1938, the Proof 1939 is usually offered in grades that range from Proof-64 through Proof-67. Proof-68s are rare, however, and with only a handful of examples graded finer by PCGS (all Proof-68+), the Mack C. Chase specimen offered here numbers among the finest obtainable for today's collectors. Provenance: From the Mack C. Chase Collection. Earlier ex Heritage's CSNS Signature Sale of April 2002, lot 5951; Tom Mershon Collection; Heritage's Long Beach Signature Auction of September 2008, lot 999. PCGS# 6639. NGC ID: 27V7.
