This bottle is in immaculate condition: featuring an excellent fill level, pristine cork, vibrant color, and intact labels. No signs of leakage. While it is fully mature and drinking beautifully now, it possesses the structural integrity to be cellared for a further 25–30 years. In terms of quality and longevity, this vintage is comparable only to legends such as "Castillo Ygay 1925 Reserva Especial" (bottled April 1964) and "Paternina 1928 Gran Reserva" (bottled September 1964). 100/100 Vinos Clásicos: "Simply extraordinary! This exceedingly rare, 98-year-old Martínez Lacuesta Reserva Especial stands as one of the most extraordinary and singular wines ever crafted in Rioja—a true "unicorn" traditional wine. It underwent an astounding 37-year aging process in casks, from 1928 until 1965. This late bottling was hand-selected by the estate’s owners and vinified independently to commemorate the 70th anniversary of Bodegas Martínez Lacuesta (1895–1965). The mythical 1928 vintage is revered as one of the 20th century’s greatest harvests in Rioja, celebrated for its "noble aging" potential and unparalleled evolution in the bottle. While the standard Martínez Lacuesta 1928 Reserva Especial was bottled in 1940 after 12 years in wood, a rigorous selection of barrels was held back for an additional 25 years in the historic Haro cellars. Never released commercially, these bottles were reserved exclusively for the winery’s most loyal patrons and staff. This is a rare opportunity to acquire one of those storied bottles.
