Background Information: This bronze finger ring dates to the 18th century and features a broad rectangular bezel engraved with a simple geometric linear design. Such engraved motifs were common on utilitarian rings of the Post-Medieval period, serving primarily as decorative elements while reflecting the restrained aesthetic of everyday personal jewellery. Bronze rings of this type were worn by men and women across Europe as affordable ornaments and personal possessions. While precious metal rings remained symbols of wealth and status, bronze examples provided durable and attractive alternatives that could be worn in daily life. Geometric engraved bezels were produced in a wide variety of patterns by local craftsmen and found widespread popularity throughout the 18th century. The ring was cast and subsequently finished by hand, with the bezel carefully engraved using simple tools. Its manufacture reflects the well-established metalworking traditions of the Post-Medieval period, when regional workshops supplied jewellery for local and wider markets. Comparable rings have been recovered from urban centres, rural settlements, and trading communities throughout northwestern Europe. Dating to the 18th century, this piece represents the practical craftsmanship and everyday material culture of the Post-Medieval world. It provides a tangible connection to the people of the period, for whom such rings served as modest yet enduring items of personal adornment.
