1876 Liberty Seated Half Dollar. WB-102. Type II Reverse. MS-66+ (PCGS).

1876 Liberty Seated Half Dollar. WB-102. Type II Reverse. MS-66+ (PCGS). We are pleased to be offering a small group of high grade, fresh to market Mint State 1876 Liberty Seated half dollars in this sale. Offered here is the highlight, a stellar near-Superb Gem example with richly original olive-gold, blue-gray, mauve and pewter patina blanketing the obverse. The equally original and attractive reverse is brilliant in the center with encircling halos of vivid cobalt blue and reddish-apricot peripheral iridescence. Intense frosty mint luster floods both sides, the devices of which are sharply to fully struck, the surfaces of which are smooth and close to pristine. This is a popular issue for high grade type purposes, the 1876 produced in the United States' Centennial year and sporting a generous mintage of 8.4 million pieces that virtually guaranteed that a good number of Mint State examples would survive. Yet even so, few that have come down to the present day are smooth enough to qualify for a premium Gem grade, as here. PCGS Population: 3; 2 finer (both MS-67). PCGS# 6352. NGC ID: 24KG. Image with the PCGS TrueView logo is obtained from and is subject to a license agreement with Collectors Universe, Inc. and its divisions PCGS and PSA.
