1870-CC Liberty Seated Silver Dollar. OC-6. Rarity-5+. VF Details--Plugged

1870-CC Liberty Seated Silver Dollar. OC-6. Rarity-5+. VF Details--Plugged (PCGS). First of the Carson City Mint silver dollars, and the most readily obtainable of the challenging Liberty Seated design type, the 1870-CC is particularly scarce relative to collector demand. This holds true at all levels of preservation, highlighting the significance of this more affordable survivor in PCGS-certified VF. Likely a former jewelry piece, the curiously "active" surfaces are somewhat bright with hairlines that further betray a cleaning. The PCGS qualifier concerns a rather skillfully plugged hole at 12 o'clock on the obverse, with associated repair work in both that area and at 6 o'clock on the reverse. Both sides are retoning in light, gently mottled, iridescent reddish-gold. Provenance: From the Bryan C. Tipton Collection. PCGS# 6964. NGC ID: 24ZE. Click here for certification details from PCGS. Image with the PCGS TrueView logo is obtained from and is subject to a license agreement with Collectors Universe, Inc. and its divisions PCGS and PSA.
