1854-S Liberty Head Eagle. AU-55 (PCGS). CAC.

1854-S Liberty Head Eagle. AU-55 (PCGS). CAC. An impressive Choice AU example with overall light honey-gold color and subtle pale apricot tinting. It is sharply defined across all elements with nearly full, softly frosted to semi-reflective luster. 1854 represents the first year of eagle production at the San Francisco Mint, where a sizable quantity of 123,826 coins was struck. As a result, the 1854-S remains relatively available overall in today's market. However, Uncirculated examples are incredibly rare, as the vast majority of this mintage was subject to extensive circulation through the American West. A more realistic goal for many collectors, therefore would be to focus on the Choice AU grade level. Such pieces are scarce in their own right, however, and few can match the originality and quality of the offered coin from the Fairmont holdings. Provenance: From our sale of the Fairmont Collection - Albertine Set, June 2024 Auction, lot 4126. PCGS# 8615. NGC ID: 263K. Click here for certification details from PCGS. Image with the PCGS TrueView logo is obtained from and is subject to a license agreement with Collectors Universe, Inc. and its divisions PCGS and PSA.
