1839 Liberty Seated Half Dollar. No Drapery. WB-3. Rarity-5. VF Details--Cleaned

1839 Liberty Seated Half Dollar. No Drapery. WB-3. Rarity-5. VF Details--Cleaned (PCGS). Glossy surfaces indicate a past cleaning, though the coin has begun to retone nicely, with pale gold, mauve, and rose tones dominating. A tiny dig between stars 10 and 11 is the only individual mark worth calling out and serves as a useful pedigree marker. On the reverse, an obvious die crack begins at approximately 3:30 and continues through the arrowhead, the eagle's wing, and its right (facing) leg, readily confirming the attribution. The reverse is rotated counterclockwise approximately seventeen degrees. WB-3 is the scarcest of the four No Drapery die marriages and, more significantly, the scarcest variety of the entire 1839 Liberty Seated half dollar issue. Provenance: From the Jim Koenings Collection. PCGS# 801666. BASE PCGS# 6230. NGC ID: 24GK. Click here for certification details from PCGS. Image with the PCGS TrueView logo is obtained from and is subject to a license agreement with Collectors Universe, Inc. and its divisions PCGS and PSA.
