1787 Connecticut Copper. Miller 33.14-Z.14, W-3600. Rarity-5. Draped

1787 Connecticut Copper. Miller 33.14-Z.14, W-3600. Rarity-5. Draped Bust Left. VF-35 (PCGS). 150.8 grains. Dark brown fields, slightly lighter brown on the high points, and with a distinct bluish tinge on the central motifs and peripheral letters. The obverse is microgranular in the field, reverse slightly rougher, particularly below the seated figure's waist. Both sides are struck slightly off center, obverse to lower right, reverse to 12 o'clock, but without serious effect. There is no significant post-production damage on the obverse, although the reverse is lightly scratched in the lower left field area with additional signs of handling scattered about on this side. Well above average and highly desirable in an example of this Miller number, which seldom comes better than Choice VF. Provenance: From the John Bolger Collection. Earlier ex Jeff Kierstead Rare Coins, April 6, 1994; our (Stack's) sale of the George C. Perkins, Esq. Collection of Connecticut Coppers, January 2000 Americana Sale, lot 377; Stack's, August 2000, privately. PCGS# 685135. BASE PCGS# 370. NGC ID: 2B2X. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
