1786 New Jersey Copper. Maris 20-N, W-4905. Rarity-4. Curved Plow

Lovely Choice EF Maris 20-N New Jersey Drunken Die Cutter 1786 New Jersey Copper. Maris 20-N, W-4905. Rarity-4. Curved Plow Beam, Drunken Die Cutter, Wide Shield. EF-45 (PCGS). SHI DS3. Positively choice in a lightly circulated example of this Maris number, both sides are beautifully toned in autumn-orange and golden-brown, reverse with intermingled deeper olive-copper that is largely associated with some light, ancient scale within some of the protected areas. The planchet is smooth and hard, free of significant flaws, both sides with just a few minor marks, a trio of which cluster around the letters NO in NOVA. Ideally centered and sharply struck overall (where allowed by die state), close inspection with a loupe even reveals a few faint die finish lines in the field around the upper right corner of the shield. When strike, surfaces and eye appeal are combined, this coin becomes very difficult to surpass in a Maris 20-N at the certified Choice EF level. PCGS# 498. NGC ID: 2B4H.
