"1737" (1860s) Higley Copper. Bolen Copy. Musante JAB-10, Kenney-4, W-14270. THE VALVE OF THREE PENCE / CONNECTICVT, 3 Hammers. Copper. MS-66 BN (NGC). Superb cartwheel luster spins around golden tan surfaces, toned with hints of olive and retaining a good deal of mint color around the peripheries. Better centered and struck than most, with complete legends and magnificent fine detail. A tiny spot at the rim above the letter P in PENCE is the only flaw we can find. A beautiful example of one of Bolen's most desirable productions, a popular stand-in for a Higley copper in a well formed colonial collection. Provenance: From the Winslet Collection.
