1652 Pine Tree Sixpence. Noe-33a, Salmon 2*-B, W-670. Rarity-5+. Pellets

Outstanding Noe-33a Pine Tree Sixpence The Noe and Wurtzbach Plate Coin 1652 Pine Tree Sixpence. Noe-33a, Salmon 2*-B, W-670. Rarity-5+. Pellets at Trunk. AU-55 (PCGS). 32.0 grains. A superb example and one that is definitely among the nicest extant for this variety. From the same dies as Noe-33, but after the obverse had been properly aligned over the reverse roller. Near-perfectly centered on the obverse with the peripheral inscription fully legible, only the tops of the letters THVS run off the flan at top. Full tree with most branches showing, both flanking pellets complete, hints of a root structure visible. On the reverse this piece is about perfectly centered with all the letters in the peripheral legend on the flan, date and denomination at center full. Once described by Carl Wurtzbach as, "Unc. Nicely centered. Very rare thus." Our recent offerings confirm that this piece continues to rank high in the census for the Noe-33a Pine Tree sixpence. Provenance: From the Emerald Coast Collection. Earlier ex Virgil Brand; Carl Wurtzbach; T. James Clarke; F.C.C. Boyd; John J. Ford. Jr.; our (Stack's) sale of the John J. Ford, Jr. Collection, Part XII, October 2005, lot 138 Heritage's Baltimore ANA Signature Auction of July-August 2008, lot 867. PCGS# 45367. NGC ID: 2ARS.
