MISCELLANEE 1780-1873 Provenance of great prestige: ex-libris of P.J.C. Orsi, Lyonnais chef and bibliophile, Meilleur Ouvrier de France 1972, whose gastronomic library is known and sought after by collectors. Rare and important collection of 14 works (1780-1873) bound together in a single quarto volume, 24x16 cm, with 12 original frontispieces, a manuscript index card, and the ex-libris of the famous Lyonnais chef P.J.C. Orsi (Meilleur Ouvrier de France 1972). The volume brings together a series of extremely rare Italian pamphlets and treatises (mostly Tuscan, Bologna and Piedmontese) on agronomy, viticulture, enology, and agricultural industries, today very difficult to obtain: • Don Felice Priore di Pratiglione, Two Discourses on the Disease of the Vine (Florence 1854) • New edition of the tested method for the production of wine without grapes (Modena 1854, 4th ed.) • Giuseppe Roda, Manual on the Cultivation of pineapples and on the construction and heating of chests and greenhouses (Turin 1861, illustrated with 58 engravings) • Camillo Zucchi, Practical Art of good and useful agriculture (Bologna 1855) and The Agronomic Treasure (Bologna 1836) • Enrico Felice, Observations and Discoveries on hemp (Venice 1780) • Andrea Zucchini, Memoire to serve for the cultivation of madder in Tuscany (Florence 1782) • Girolamo Caruso, Urgent Questions of Viticulture (Messina 1871) • Alessandro Bizzarri, Artificial Wines… methods Petiot and Bizzarri (Milan 1873) • Other texts on agricultural economy, agricultural and manufacturing industry, cultivation of the vine, etc. This is a collection of exceptional bibliographic rarity: most of these pamphlets were printed in extremely limited editions, often for local or academic use, and are today very difficult to obtain even separately. The volume uniquely documents the development of Italian agronomy and enology from the late 18th to the mid-19th century, with particular attention to technical innovations (greenhouses, pineapple cultivation, artificial wines, combating vine diseases, hemp and madder).
