10¢ WILLIAMS "CRANE" ARCADE MACHINE C. mid-1950s. A 10¢ arcade machine manufactured by Williams Manufacturing Company Chicago, IL. Model no. 144. A coin-operated, electromechanical construction. The upper marquee reads "Be a Sidewalk Engineer Operate This Crane It's Fun". This 10¢ player operates a miniature power shovel using a bank of four control buttons, attempting to scoop materials and deposit into the elevator hopper. The machine measures the amount moved on its large "How Many Tons Can You Load" hopper, and dial reads the player's performance. The original game used lentil-type beans to simulate gravel. Unlike Prize cranes, Williams Crane was strictly designed for amusement steel game with no merchandise payout. CONDITION: The cabinet shows substantial but attractive arcade use wear, including paint loss abrasions and oxidation, while retaining a strong original appearance. Condition: (Good).
