Rare Lancaster County, Pennsylvania Queen Anne walnut desk on frame,18th century the fall front lid inlaid with 2 compass stars, flankinga central crown and tulip enclosing 2 birds with ebony and bone inlay above the date 1771, all completely surrounded in herringbone inlay, opening to an interior with an arched raised panel cherry prospect door with compass star inlay over the words "Eins Ist Noth", opening to 6 blocked serpentine drawers, all concealing a secret compartment with drawers, the handle for which is the shape of a cutout heart, all flanked by tiger maple document drawers, all flanked by 8 valanced drawers over 8 pigeon holes over 8 blocked drawers, all above a scalloped molding, above a single long drawer simulating 3 drawers, with herringbone inlay and the initials "H.K.". the base with a bold molding over a carved and pierced skirt with tulips and fish tails supported by cabriole legs terminating in modified trifid feet, 44in h., 37in w. This unique expression of rural Pennsylvania craftsmanship is most likely the companion piece to a desk illustrated in American Antiques Viii from Israel Sack Collection, page 2342-2343 The Sack desk exhibits an identical, exuberantly inlaid lid Denotes Photo in catalogue 6 branded "Reese".
