An Isamu Noguchi ''Rudder'' dinette table, model IN-20
Designed 1944, unsigned, Isamu Noguchi (1904 - 1988 American) for Herman Miller, of birch and zinc-plated steel, the free-form top over three parabolic legs, 26.25'' H x 50'' W x 35.5'' D, est: $6000/9000\nLiterature: Alexander von Vegesack et al, eds., Isamu Noguchi: Sculptural Design, Vitra Design Museum, 2002, pp. 120 - 124, model in birch with inset flower vase illustrated p. 121. Provenance: This lot, as well as the other Noguchi pieces on offer, was purchased by the Consignor circa 1949 directly from the Herman Miller Showroom at Chicago's Merchandise Mart in order to suit the decor of the Consignor's newly acquired modern apartment in Chicago's iconic Brockton building. The set has remained in the same Private Collection, Chicago, Illinois, ever since. Condition: Structurally sound. General marks, scratches, nicks, and rubbed wear commensurate with age and use. Pitting and scattered minor losses to finish on tabletop; the largest a 3'' x 1'' section near table edge. A few scattered shrinkage cracks to veneer on underside; the largest approximately 16''-long. Scattered minor areas of oxidation to zinc-plated steel legs; scattered gouges, scratches, and wear to finish on wooden leg. Rubbed wear and minor chipping to underside of table at edges, primarily localized to one end. Table applied with green paint by previous owner and then professionally removed; remnants of green paint evident throughout where finish has pitting, cracking or been worn. John Moran Auctioneers

Late 19th century, each with rectangular beveled glazed panel inset hinged top opening to a brown velvet-lined interior, above a paneled frieze, with glazed panel to front, on square tapering legs, joined by a paneled undertier, ending in caps, 30.25'' H x 16.5'' W x 10.5'' D, est: $800/1000\nCondition: Good condition overall. Structurally sound. General marks, nicks and scratches commensurate with age and use. Some darkening and minor denting to brass. One lacking brass bands to bottom front and back of frieze. Blacklight: A few spots of touch-up along the lower edge, the largest dime-sized. A 1.75'' x 1'' area of touch-up upper left. A 4'' x 2'' area of touch-up upper right.
