Richard II (1377-99), gold Half-Noble of three shillings and four pence, Tower Mint London, obverse utilising older Edward III Treaty dies with French title omitted, converted to read in Richard's name and muled with an Edward III reverse, King standing in ship with upright sword and quartered shield, beaded circle surrounding, RIC over EDW, RIC ARDxx DIxxGxx REXxx AnGL xZx FRAnCxx DnSxx hIBxx Zxx AQ, rev. E and pellet for Edward at centre of ornamental cross with lis terminals, crowns over lions in angles, all within a beaded and linear tressure, fleurs in spandrels, legend +DOmInExx nExx In FVRORExx TVOxx ARGVASxx mE, weight 3.71g (Schneider 119; Webb Ware 1a; N.1309/1282; S.1664/1523). Toned, struck a little short of flan, lightly creased otherwise a bold very fine, extremely rare, especially as an early mule with the Edward III dies.
